Tall Dave grew up (and up and up and up) south of Chicago in rural
Illinois, but it wasn't until moving to Minneapolis that he was introduced
to house music. After starting to spend every friday night in First
Avenue's legendary VIP Room, getting down with a diverse crowd to the
soulful, vocal, spiritual grooves of Bryan Gerrard, David Drone, Monte
Hilleman, Chuck Love, and Alexander East (among many others), Dave was
inspired to start spinning himself.
In 2004, finally fed up with Minnesota winters, Dave relocated to Austin, Texas,
where he found a dirtier and jackin' funky house sound. He has since combined
these influences into his own smooth style, which he describes as "funky vocal
dubby techy groovin' dirty jackin' electro jazzy chunky soulful house music",
or "funky deep house" for the sane and impatient.
Tall Dave has quickly joined the ranks of Austin's notable house DJs, holding
down multiple weekly and monthly residencies all over the city with Jamon,
Toddy B, Jacob Clark and Ryan Miller. In 2005 he fulfilled a dream by opening
for longtime influence and borderline idol, Miguel Migs. Dave has also opened
for and played alongside such house music luminaries as Joey Youngman, Chuck
Love, Charles Feelgood, Eddie Spettro, Jevne and Lance Cashion.
A former on-air DJ himself, Dave has since gone on to be
featured on local, satellite and internet radio, including recording sets for
D:Fuse's "People's Mix" on XM Radio, Lance Cashion's "The Sound" on
ProtonRadio.com, and multiple guest mixes on local radio shows "Hypersonic"
and "The Chill Zone". In 2005 Dave was named one of Austin's top DJs by
Study Breaks magazine.
